Blur photo background: portrait mode for any photo
Soften a messy room, an office or a crowd behind you, like a phone's portrait mode, for a profile picture, a CV photo or a product shot with a person. The person is found automatically and kept sharp.

How to blur the background of a photo
- 01
Choose your photo
Pick a photo with one or more people in it. The person finder downloads once, the first time.
- 02
Pick the strength
Light keeps the place recognisable, Strong turns it into soft colour. The preview updates as you choose.
- 03
Download
Save the photo as a JPG at the same size it was opened.
Good to know
- The person finder looks for people, not objects: a pet or a product on its own stays blurred.
- Fine hair and see-through things like glasses at the edge may blur slightly. Light strength hides this best.
- Don't use it for passport or visa photos: official photos must not be edited, and they need a plain background instead.
- Large photos are scaled to 2400 px on the longest side, plenty for profiles, CVs and screens.
Questions people ask
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The person finder (Google's open-source MediaPipe) runs in your browser on your own device. The only download is the finder itself, once.
Why does the edge of my hair look soft?
Hair has gaps the finder can only estimate, so the edge is feathered rather than cut hard. A plainer background behind the head gives the cleanest edge.
Can I replace the background instead of blurring it?
Yes. Our background tool swaps it for white, blue, red, any colour or transparent.
Does it work for group photos?
Yes. Everyone the finder recognises as a person is kept sharp.
