Watermark a PDF: DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL or your words

Mark a proposal as DRAFT, a report as CONFIDENTIAL or a sample as SAMPLE before you send it. The words run large and see-through across the middle of every page, so the text underneath stays readable.

How to watermark a PDF

  1. 01

    Choose your PDF

Pick the PDF from your phone or computer.

  2. 02

    Pick the words and look

Tap DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, SAMPLE or COPY, or type your own. Choose grey, red or blue, and how strong it shows.

  3. 03

    Check and download

Page 1 of the result shows before you download. The stamp is sized to each page, so A4 and Letter pages look the same.

Good to know

  • The pages themselves aren't redrawn: text stays sharp and selectable, and the file grows by only a few KB.
  • Sideways and rotated pages are handled, so the text sits where you see it, the right way up.
  • Up to 500 pages. PDFs locked with a password can't be opened; save a copy without the password first.
  • Adding anything to a digitally signed PDF breaks its signature. Number or stamp the PDF before it is signed.

Questions people ask

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Your browser adds the text to the PDF on your own device, so contracts, theses and case files never leave it.

Can someone remove the watermark?

Someone with PDF editing software can delete added text, so a watermark marks a document's status rather than locking it. For copies you must control, share only what the reader needs.

Will the text under the watermark stay readable?

Yes. The stamp is see-through: Faint and Medium leave text easy to read, Strong is for samples that shouldn't be used as they are.

Can I watermark photos instead?

Yes, with our photo watermark tool: add text or a logo to JPG and PNG images, one or many at once.
