Questions people ask
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The image is resized by your browser on your own device and never leaves it. That also makes it fast: there is nothing to upload or wait for.
How does it get the file under the limit?
It first lowers the JPG compression quality, which keeps every pixel. Only if that is not enough does it also make the image smaller in pixels, a little at a time, until the file fits. You always get the sharpest version that is under the limit.
Is 1 KB 1000 or 1024 bytes here?
1024 bytes, which is how most forms and operating systems count. A file shown as 49 KB is at most 49 × 1024 bytes, so it is also under a 50 KB limit that counts in thousands.
The form also gives pixel dimensions. Does this tool set them?
No, this tool only sets the file size. For passport and visa photos with exact dimensions, use the photo maker for that country: it sets the size, the crop and the file limit together.
