Image to SVG: trace PNG and JPG into vectors

Turn a PNG or JPG logo, icon, sketch or signature into an SVG that stays sharp at any size: for cutting machines, laser engravers, embroidery files, print and websites.

  • Logos, icons, line art
  • Nothing uploaded

Your image stays on this device. Nothing is uploaded.

Logos, icons, signatures, sketches and line drawings trace best. Photos make very large SVGs.

How to convert an image to SVG

  1. 01

    Choose the image

Pick a PNG or JPG. A clean picture with flat colours gives the cleanest shapes.

  2. 02

    Pick colours and shapes

Black & white suits line art and signatures; 4 to 16 colours suit logos. Smooth gives fewer, rounder shapes; Detailed follows the picture closely.

  3. 03

    Check and download

The preview shows the traced SVG on a checkerboard, so you can see what is clear. Download it when it looks right.

Good to know

  • Tracing draws new shapes around areas of colour. It suits flat artwork; photos turn into many blotches and large files.
  • Pictures are traced at up to 1000 px on the longest side, which keeps tracing quick on a phone. The SVG itself scales to any size.
  • Remove white background drops white and near-white areas, so the SVG sits cleanly on any colour.
  • For cutting machines (Cricut, Silhouette), Black & white gives one clean layer to cut.

Questions people ask

Is my image uploaded?

No. The tracing runs in your browser on your own device, using imagetracerjs, a free open-source tracer.

How do I convert a PNG to SVG with a transparent background?

Leave Remove white background ticked. White areas and clear pixels are left out of the SVG, so only your design is drawn.

Is this the same as saving a PNG as SVG?

No. Renaming or wrapping a PNG in an SVG keeps its pixels, which blur when enlarged. Tracing makes real vector shapes, which stay sharp at any size.

Can I use the SVG of someone else's logo?

Only with permission. Tracing changes the format, not who owns the design. Use it for your own artwork or designs you're licensed to use.

Next stepTracing a signature? The signature tool cleans up paper and shadows first, then saves an SVG.
