How to crop a photo into a circle
- 01
Choose your photo
Pick a photo from your phone or computer, or take one. Head and shoulders work best.
- 02
Drag and zoom
Move the photo inside the circle and zoom in until your face sits in the middle with a little space above your head.
- 03
Pick ring, corners and size
Add a white, black or blue ring, keep the corners clear or make them white, and choose 400, 800, 1200 px.
Good to know
- LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack and Google crop square profile photos into circles themselves. Use the preview here to see exactly what will show, then upload the PNG.
- Clear corners need PNG. JPG can't be transparent, so choosing white corners saves a JPG instead.
- Zoom only crops: it never adds pixels. Start from the sharpest photo you have for a large picture.
Questions people ask
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The circle is cut by your browser on your own device and saved straight from it.
What size should a profile picture be?
Most sites show it at 400 px or smaller, so 400 × 400 px is enough. Choose 800 px for sharp results on phones and high-resolution screens, or 1200 px for slides and print.
Why are the corners white or black on some sites?
Some apps don't support transparency and fill clear corners with a colour. Choose white corners if you'll place the picture on a white page.
Can I change the background behind me first?
Yes. Replace a messy background with a plain colour in our background tool, then crop the result into a circle here.
