Good to know
- Many upload forms take only JPG: the OCI portal, SSC and IBPS, for example, all ask for JPEG files.
- Transparent areas become white, because JPG has no transparency.
- For a screenshot of small text, keep PNG unless the form asks for JPG: JPG can soften the edges of letters.
Questions people ask
Are my images uploaded?
No. Each image is converted by your browser on your own device, so nothing is sent anywhere and there is no queue to wait in.
Will my PNG lose quality as a JPG?
Very little for photos: it is saved at high quality, and the difference is hard to see. Sharp text and line drawings show it more, so check those.
