The formula

  • Pixels = size in inches × DPI. One inch is 25.4 mm, so divide millimetres by 25.4 first.
  • Example: 35 mm at 300 DPI is 35 ÷ 25.4 × 300 ≈ 413 pixels.
  • Going back: print size in inches = pixels ÷ DPI.

Questions people ask

How do I convert mm to pixels?

Divide the millimetres by 25.4 to get inches, then multiply by the DPI. At 300 DPI, 35 × 45 mm becomes 413 × 531 px.

How many pixels is a passport photo?

It depends on the country's size. At 300 DPI, a 35 × 45 mm photo (UK, Schengen, India, Australia) is 413 × 531 px and a 2 × 2 in photo (US) is 600 × 600 px. Online forms often state their own pixel size; use that when they do.
