How to remove a background without remove.bg
- 01
Choose a photo of a person
A photo of one or more people, standing clear of the wall, works best. Products, pets and cars aren't detected.
- 02
Check the cut-out
Transparent is already picked, so the background disappears straight away. Pick a colour instead if you want a plain one.
- 03
Download the PNG
Transparent cut-outs download as a PNG, up to 2400 px on the longest side.
What remove.bg announced
- In its own words, read on 2026-10-31: “remove.bg's background removal is moving to Canva. The standalone website will no longer be available from 1 December 2026 at 9:00am CET.”
- If you have unused credits or need old invoices, check your remove.bg account before the closing date.
- Finds people: one person, a couple or a family photo. It does not cut out products, animals, cars or logos.
- Hair edges are softer than a studio cut-out, because the model is small enough to run on a phone.
Questions people ask
Is remove.bg shutting down?
The standalone remove.bg website closes on 1 December 2026 at 9:00am CET, according to the notice on remove.bg. Its background removal continues inside Canva.
Can this replace remove.bg for products or logos?
No. It finds people only. For signatures and logos on white paper, use our signature background remover; for products, a photo editor's selection tools work better.
Is there a limit on how many photos I can do?
No. Nothing is uploaded, so there are no credits to run out. Each photo is processed on your own device.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The person is found by a model that runs in your browser. The photo never leaves your device, so there is no daily limit and no account.
