How to flatten a PDF form
- 01
Choose the filled PDF
Pick the form you have already filled in. The tool counts its form fields and shows their names.
- 02
Flatten the fields
Tap Flatten. Each field's answer, tick or choice is drawn onto the page and the field is removed.
- 03
Download the flat PDF
Check page 1 in the preview, then tap Download PDF. Your original form is not changed.
Why flatten a PDF
- Some portals reject PDFs with live form fields, or show them empty. A flat PDF shows the answers everywhere.
- Nobody can change the answers by clicking into a box after you send it.
- Printing, merging and compressing work better once the fields are part of the page.
- If the PDF has no fillable fields, the tool says so and nothing is changed.
Questions people ask
What does flattening a PDF mean?
It turns fillable form fields (text boxes, tick boxes, drop-downs) into ordinary page content. The answers stay visible, but they are no longer fields anyone can edit.
How do I make a filled PDF form uneditable?
Flatten it. Choose the filled PDF here, tap Flatten and download the new file. The answers are then fixed on the page.
Is it safe to flatten my form here?
Yes. Your browser opens the PDF and makes the new file on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, so contracts, statements and ID scans never leave it.
Does flattening change how my answers look?
Usually not. Each answer keeps the look the form saved for it, in the same place on the page. Only a field with no saved look is drawn fresh, in a standard font.
Why does it say my PDF has no form fields?
The boxes you see are already part of the page, for example on a scan or a form someone printed to PDF. There is nothing to flatten, and you can send it as it is.
Can I undo flattening?
Not in the flat file, which is the point. Keep your original PDF if you may need to change an answer later.
Will a digital signature survive flattening?
No. Any change to a signed PDF breaks its digital signature, so flatten first and sign the flat file afterwards.
Does flattening a PDF reduce its file size?
Not by much. The answers become page content and the field data is removed, so the size stays about the same. To make the file smaller, compress it after flattening.
Does it flatten comments, highlights and layers too?
No. Only form fields are flattened. Comments, highlights and layers stay as they are.
Can I flatten a form filled in Hindi or another script?
Usually, yes, when the form saved how each answer looks. A field with no saved look can only be drawn in Western letters, so the tool says it couldn't be flattened. Open the PDF in a PDF reader, save it, and try again.
