- Title, author, subject and keywords, which often hold your name or the file's old name.
- Made with and PDF producer: the program and version that made the file, such as Word or a scanner app.
- Created and modified dates, and extra entries some programs add, such as Company.
- The XMP packet, a second copy of the same details stored as XML, and old copies left by earlier saves.
Questions people ask
What is PDF metadata?
It is the document details stored inside a PDF besides its pages: title, author, subject, keywords, the software that made it and when. Anyone can see them under File, Properties.
How do I remove the author name from a PDF?
Choose the PDF here and tap Remove all details. The author is deleted along with the other details, and you download a clean copy.
Is it safe to clean my PDF here?
Yes. Your browser opens the PDF and makes the new file on your own device. Nothing is uploaded, so contracts, statements and ID scans never leave it.
Does removing metadata change the pages?
No. Text, images, links and form fields stay as they were. Only the document details are taken out.
Does it remove names written on the pages?
No. Names, signatures or stamps that are part of the page itself stay. This tool removes the hidden details only.
Why does my PDF show no details?
Some programs save none, or another tool already removed them. You can still save a clean copy to be sure.
Can I remove metadata from photos too?
Yes. Photos carry their own hidden details, such as camera and location. Use Remove EXIF data for JPG photos.
How can I see a PDF's metadata?
Choose the PDF here. Every detail it holds, such as title, author, the program that made it and the dates, is listed before anything is removed.
Does printing to PDF remove metadata?
Not reliably. A printed copy gets new details of its own, such as the program that printed it and the date, and it can lose its links. Removing the details here keeps the pages as they are.
Are details inside pictures on the pages removed too?
No. Only the document's own details are removed. A photo placed on a page keeps any details it carried, so remove EXIF data from photos before you put them in a PDF.
