Split a VCF file into smaller files

Break one large .vcf contacts file into smaller ones, with as many contacts in each as you choose. This helps when a phone, an app or an email won't take one big file. Every card is copied exactly, photos included.

  • Any number per file
  • ZIP download
  • Photos kept

    Choose the .vcf file

An export from a phone, Google Contacts or Outlook.

  2. 02

100 is filled in for you. Set 1 to get one file for each contact.

  3. 03

    Download the ZIP

Unzip it, then import or send the files one at a time.

Good to know

  • The files are named after yours, such as contacts-part-01.vcf and contacts-part-02.vcf, and keep the original order.
  • The last file holds the contacts that are left over, so it may be smaller.
  • On an iPhone, tap the ZIP in the Files app to unzip it. On Android, most file manager apps, such as Files by Google, can unzip it.
  • Nothing in the cards changes: fields this page doesn't show are kept too.

Questions people ask

How do I split a large VCF file?

Choose the .vcf here, type how many contacts each file should hold, and download the ZIP. It holds the smaller .vcf files.

Does splitting change my contacts?

No. Each card is copied exactly as it was, including photos. Only the file it is in changes.

How do I get one VCF file per contact?

Set “Contacts in each file” to 1. The ZIP then holds one .vcf for each contact.

Why would I split a VCF file?

Some phones, apps and email services won't take one large .vcf, or stop partway through the import. Smaller files import one at a time without that problem.

How many contacts can each file hold?

Any number from 1 to 100,000. 100 is filled in for you, and the last file holds whatever is left over.

How do I open the ZIP on my phone?

On an iPhone, tap the ZIP in the Files app and it unzips into a folder. On Android, open it in a file manager such as Files by Google and tap Extract.

Does it work with any vCard version?

Yes. Cards are moved exactly as written, so vCard 2.1, 3.0 and 4.0 files all split without changes.

Are my contacts uploaded?

No. The file is read by your browser on your own device. Contact lists are personal data, so nothing is sent anywhere.
