Resize image to 300 KB

300 KB is the photo cap on the Indian e-Visa form (10–300 KB) and the largest size UPSC's FAQ allows. Most phone photos only need a little compression to fit.

Questions people ask

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The image is resized by your browser on your own device and never leaves it. That also makes it fast: there is nothing to upload or wait for.

Which forms ask for a photo under 300 KB?

The Indian e-Visa asks for a square photo of 10–300 KB, and UPSC's FAQ allows 20–300 KB. Each form has its own pixel and background rules as well, so check those before you upload.

Does the Indian e-Visa photo also need a set size in pixels?

Yes. It asks for a square photo as well as the 10–300 KB file, so use the India visa photo maker: it crops, sizes and keeps the file inside the range.

UPSC says 300 KB in one place and 200 KB in another. Which is right?

Stay under 200 KB, which passes both. Our UPSC page makes the photo and signature inside the stricter limit.

My form gives a range, like 10–300 KB. How do I set it?

Keep 300 KB selected and type the lower number in Smallest file size. The file then lands inside the range; one that comes out too small is padded up to the minimum without changing the picture.

The JEE Main certificate must be a 50–300 KB PDF. Can this page make it?

No, this page makes JPG images. Scan the page, then use the PDF under a file size tool with its 300 KB limit, and check that the size on its download button is over 50 KB.

How do I resize a photo to 300 KB on a computer?

Open this page in any browser on Windows, Mac or a Chromebook, then drag the photo onto it, paste it, or choose it with the button. Nothing is installed, and the JPG downloads to your usual folder.

Will the photo look worse?

Only as much as the limit forces. The tool lowers JPG quality first, which is hard to see, and shrinks the pixel size only if it must. The preview shows the exact file you will download.
