Resize image to 500 KB

500 KB keeps a phone photo sharp enough to print small or read every word of a scanned page, while fitting forms and email limits that refuse multi-megabyte files.

JPG, PNG or WebP. You get a JPG, the format almost every upload form accepts. Pick up to 20 photos to resize them all at once.

You can also drop an image on this box, or paste one with Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac).

How to resize an image to a file size

  1. 01

    Choose the image

Pick a photo from your phone or computer, or take one with the camera. JPG, PNG and WebP all work.

  2. 02

    Pick the size limit

Tap the limit your form gives, or type your own. The tool finds the sharpest JPG that stays under it.

  3. 03

    Check it and download

The preview is the exact file you will get, with its real size. Download it and upload it to the form.

Questions people ask

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The image is resized by your browser on your own device and never leaves it. That also makes it fast: there is nothing to upload or wait for.

Can I resize many photos to 500 KB at once?

Yes. Pick up to 20 photos together and each one is made under 500 KB. They download together in one ZIP file.

What if my photo is already under 500 KB?

A JPG that already fits is never made bigger. If re-saving would not make it smaller, you get your own picture back, with only its location and camera data removed.

The IBPS form wants a certificate under 500 KB. Is this the tool?

That certificate must be a PDF. Scan the page, then use the PDF under a file size tool to make a PDF under 500 KB.

Does the 500 KB copy keep my photo's location?

No. The file you download has no GPS location, camera model or other photo notes, because the tool either draws a new JPG or strips them from your original.

Can I send the photo to WhatsApp or email from the page?

On phones that support sharing, a Share button next to Download sends the JPG to WhatsApp, email or any other app. Otherwise download it and attach it as usual.

Is the limit counted in 1000 or 1024 bytes?

Forms rarely say, so the tool stays under the limit counted in thousands. A file it calls under the limit passes either way.

Will the photo look worse?

Only as much as the limit forces. The tool lowers JPG quality first, which is hard to see, and shrinks the pixel size only if it must. The preview shows the exact file you will download.
